Scrappy Appliqué - no two quilt's are the same

What do I love most about Scrappy Appliqué? I love the fact that no two quilts are ever the same.

Wall Hanging

So I finished my first elephant recently - it is a Scrappy Appliqué Elephant wall hanging. For the elephant I used 3 shades of grey and 3 variations of aqua. For the background fabric I used Kona Cotton Pepper fabric. And to emphasize the aqua in the elephant motif I used a deeper aqua for the binding. I was nervous to test the pepper background with so much grey in my feature elephant but after I finished I was so surprised how the elephant seemed to pop out of the design

Cushion

After I had finished the wall hanging I still had enough of my scrappy fabrics left to make another Scrappy Appliqué project. So I wanted to try keeping the same colours for the feature motif - but changing the background to see the effect. And if you see below - the change in background definitely gave a different effect. For the cushion I used Kona Cotton White as background fabric and I did not put any binding - sometimes I do with cushions and sometimes I do not put binding. Once I finish quilting a cushion top I usually decide if it would add value or not to the cushion.

No two quilt's are the same

Typically my go to background colours are white. But in experimenting with the pepper colour this time - I find that the elephant pops out of the design more. The thing I love about the Scrappy Appliqué motifs, is that you can see in these two samples that although I used the same fabrics for the two elephants, the end effect is different depending upon the placement of the fabrics for the scrappy fun or the background fabric we choose.
