Learning to quilt

I love to learn. While I had stitched blankets before, I really started to learn proper quilting skills 2 years ago.

There are a lot of online resources and tutorials to learn to quilt and with good hints and tips. The key is to find something that works for you.

Here are a few of my favourite accounts that I follow on YouTube as I try to learn new skills;

First-time quilters

I started with a few videos from Melanie Ham. She has a great YouTube channel with lots of crafty hints, not just quilting. And she has a great step by step process for starting your first quilt. She takes you through each stage of quilt making in a really logical easy way to follow.

Learning new skills

Missouri Star Quilt Company has been a great resource for me. They have pdf patterns, along with that, they have tutorials to go along with their own patterns - either through their App or on YouTube. I found this really helpful in the beginning to learn various new blocks.

For tackling quilting for the first time, I really liked watching Sugaridoo YouTube videos. Irene has a great approach. She demonstrates her journey with quilting - straight lines and free motion. She also has a great resource on her blog - it is a download of 101 Ideas for straight line quilting. Download it here - it can be a great inspiration for trying different walking foot designs.

Let me know in the comments below which resources you like online to learn new quilting skills.

Happy sewing!
